Micha - my journey towards certification as a spiritual director has me nodding my head up and down while reading this wonderful post. I believe the “self-help” industry has had us chasing the wrong thing for quite a while. When I read something that makes me take a deep breath, and gently sigh, like this post did, I realize I’m spiritually home - in my space of intimacy with the Divine Essence.
I’m not convinced it’s the right word either! But I do want to push the boundaries on what language is acceptable to use when talking about joy and fullness of heart. I do think there is a truer kind of pleasure than the way we usually use the word. Gift is a different direction than what I’m getting at, which is authentic human happiness.
Hmmm, I think you point toward it by saying, “joy / sacred pleasure / authentic human happiness”….the actual word might be a reconciliation of the three…jubilation or exultation might fit…

Perhaps we might use “gift” as an alternate to “pleasure”…
